ALEXANDRIA, VA — ACTFL Executive Director Martha G. Abbott has been appointed by President Barack Obama to the National Security Education Board.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is truly an honor to be appointed by the President to serve in this capacity on the National Security Education Board advising on the important work of building our nation’s linguistic and cultural capacity,\u201d Abbott said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to have Marty represent ACTFL and the language education community on the National Security Education Board,\u201d ACTFL President Peter Swanson added. \u201cHer appointment sends a strong message about the importance of global competence in the 21st century.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a press release Sept. 7<\/a>, President Obama praised Abbott and H.T. Nguyen, who was appointed to the National Council on Federal Labor-Management Relations. The\u00a0National Security Education Board<\/a>\u00a0(NSEB), a 14-member board comprised of representatives from eight Cabinet-level departments and six Presidentially-appointed members, advises the\u00a0National Security Education Program<\/a>\u00a0(NSEP).<\/p>\n
